Most of the creative tools on Promptchan require a paid subscription. This unlocks a monthly allocation of Gems (the currency of choice for all actions on Promptchan).

So what can you get/do without busting out the wallet?

Well, the free tier grants 5 free Gems, and put that in perspective:

• 1 custom image = 1 gem

• 1 custom video = 20 gems

• 1 selfie in AI Chat = 2 gems

• 1 voice message = 1 gem

• 1 voice call = 2 gems

AI Chat is Free with Limited Characters: You can send up to 25 messages every 3 hours to a limited selection of AI characters (not your own). These are presented through a matching system. There isn't a particularly effective way of filtering these characters, except for choosing between Art, Cinematic, Anime, Hyperanime, K-Pop or Fur. I found one I liked by simply scrolling down a very long page.

Primitive Chat Models: It's no secret that Promptchan's area of strength is image generation. The AI companions are nowhere near as advanced as other virtual girlfriends on the market. Case in point, check out this exchange:

Browse Millions of NSFW Creations: Without upgrading, you can freely explore the community gallery of user-generated content, and this was actually impressive. There are literally millions of images (and some short videos) made by others, and it's pretty amazing to see how the models have evolved over the months to become much more realistic. Not to be too explicit here, but fuck it... the spunk has improved significantly.

Create Your Own AI Porn (Limited Runs): With 5 free Gems, you have 5 cracks at the AI Image Generator. This is well worth testing. You can see my output in the gallery (I've had to censor the goods). There's an impressive selection of filters and styles, plus a highly responsive prompting tool. Only Standard quality output is available on the free plan. You'll need to upgrade to unlock High and Max.

Promptchan subscriptions are broken into three tiers: Plus ($14.99/month), Premium ($18.99/month) and Pro ($26.99/month).

Be careful with your budgeting - since the price quoted on the Upgrade page, with 20% off, applies to the first month only. After the first billing cycle, it jumps back to the full price.

There's not much difference between Plus and Premium, except for the discounted Gems.

Plus: 1 gem = $0.12

Premium: 1 gem = $0.05

Pro: 1 gem = $0.03

If you are using Promptchan just for the AI porn generation, it works out cheaper than most virtual girlfriend chat bots (where creating images is upsold at a premium).

As you can see, the Pro plan is required for AI Video generation (charged at 20 gems per clip).

While you can create custom characters with Pro, the main appeal is to generate porn with them. Not for the erotic chat, which falls behind dedicated chat bots.

Some other advantages of upgrading:

• Get the Full Suite of AI Tools: This includes NSFW video generation without strict limits, so you can animate longer or more complex scenes. The AI image editor can be used freely to tweak images to perfection. You can also clone/edit others’ shared images without restriction, enabling endless remixing of community content (of which there is a ton). Essentially, premium removes the training wheels and lets you use Promptchan’s creative tools to their fullest extent, with no throttling.

• No Watermarks, High Quality: There is a noticeable difference between each tier of image quality: standard vs. high vs. max. The most impressive galleries all use the highest quality image output - they are sharp, realistic and mostly free of those classic AI glitches: dodgy hands and extra limbs.

• Voice Call: I tried the Voice Call feature, which lets you chat through audio with your AI creation (or any of the stock creations). This tech still needs major improvement. The voice output is stilted, robotic and, in some cases, just plain bad. For example, in my very first exchange, "OMG" was pronounced as "OMA". This is with the same companion who, for reasons unknown, tried to transform me into a chubby girl with juicy tits lol.

Promptchan is excellent at generating AI porn imagery.

It also excels at short video clips - which you will no doubt find plastered across bot farms on Twitter/X, and in banner ads (if you haven't already).

These are the core of the product.

Priced fairly, they work great.

The AI Chat and Character Creation might improve with some extra TLC (and better LLMs), but for now, they feel like an afterthought: loosely appended in the hope of cracking a market that is already hyper competitive.
